A brand new documentary series
JUNIOR BALLET -
DREAMING, DANCING, TOGETHER
Production: Paris Opera Director: Anne-Solen Douguet
Broadcasts: episodes 1 and 2 in November 2025 episodes 3 and 4 in December 2025
Episode 1 – The artists' arrival
In July 2024, eighteen young dancers from around the world are selected following the Paris Opera Ballet's external entrance exam. They form the first class of the Junior Ballet, an ambitious new company. For these artists aged between seventeen and twenty-three, joining the Paris Opera is a dream come true and marks the beginning of a two-year adventure.
Episode 2 – Let's get to work!
The pace quickens. The Junior Ballet must master a demanding repertoire in preparation for the tour scheduled for May. Georges Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, José Martinez, as well as Noé Soulier... so many different styles and choreographies that are not all easy to master. Technique, emotion, discipline, auditions: the young artists learn and progress every day. As the days go by, the group is united around a common goal: to dance together.
Episode 3 – Preparing for Sleeping Beauty
In early 2025, a new chapter begins as the Junior Ballet joins the Opera's corps de ballet as understudies, an unprecedented experience. On the programme: Rudolf Nureyev's Sleeping Beauty, a spectacular production that has not been staged for ten years. They have to know all the roles and all the positions, sometimes learning them at the last minute. It's a challenge that combines the stress of performing with the intense joy of being part of it.
Episode4–FirstTour
Final adjustments in the studios, rehearsals, fittings... The long-awaited moment arrives: three months of touring in France and Europe. The group has to adapt to each venue, give their best on stage and continue to progress. Injuries, cast changes, successes and encounters with the public punctuate this intense period. The bond between the members grows stronger, even as the entrance exam for the corps de ballet looms, with its share of uncertainties. What will be the next steps for these young artists? For now, they must continue to dance until the end of the summer.
The Junior Ballet receives exceptional support from Chanel and generous assistance from the BNP Paribas Foundation, Kinoshita Group, GRoW @ Annenberg, the Caris Foundation, and major donors.
